isn't that sad that all those people who put their trust in god, and did good deads to help one another will all die because they couldn't figure out the "riddle" of the true religion.. i see my old parents go to church (catholic) every week, and they truly believe that they will be saved.
is there a religion that doesn't think that they won't be saved?.
if the witnesses are right, over 99.99% of beleivers will die at armageddon, and 100% of unbelievers will die at armageddon.
A frightening figure ....

i personally think it's a pantry that pretty much every non-christian belief system gets tossed into.
there are so many perceptions of paganism, and although i pretty much want to open this discussion to those who label themselves as such, anyone's thoughts are welcome.
this topic can become a can of worms, hopefully it won't denigrate to that.. thoughts?.
With all the knee-jerk "Christian" opinion on these kind of things, I wouldn't be looking for an accurate definition from that quarter.
i agree little toe ... its synonimous with evil. as apostate and demons are in dubland ... to be talked about only in hushed tones.

not sure if this has been posted.
there have been a few threads about the george benson singing kingdom melodies cd that is doing the rounds in dubdom.
seems the wt doesnt like it.
Direction from on high ....
I have to ask my mom about it. I know she'll say "the society encourages us not to." But why? Did they tell you why?
That's the funniest thing about this directive ... no reason whatsoever. Just don't. It's like when I was a kid ... my mothers reasoning for everything was "Because I said so, that's why!"
That logic works when you're 4 feet tall.

what would you think if i told you "last thursday i went to the service meeting at the kingdom hall to hear the presiding overseer give a talk from the platform.
most of us here know that to mean "last thursday i went to church to hear the head pastor give a sermon on the door to door ministry from the pulpit", a pretty common and straight forward event for a jehovah's witness.
i asked my pennicostal wife what she thought the phrase meant and she guessed it had something to do with slavery and human sacrifice.
I think ...
Gathering is one of the words that finally clicked years after I bounced outta there. A word that to me implies not only a bringing together of people in assembly, but it also has undertone of secrecy or illicit behavior --- like 'a gathering of thieves'. At the time it meant party ... festive even, though to say so would seem too worldly (re: Normal). I was so stifled and repressed in those days that even a Klan rally would have peaked my interest.
Talk about looking like an a$$ .... soon after I left, I used the word with a crowd of normal people.
That's when I started to believe I'd been in a cult all my life, indoctinated by my family since birth. Never had a chance. It was until I found JWD that I confirmed my suspicions.
It's a wonder I'm not a total nutcase.

in it's own harsh way, bethel taught me some vital lessons about life.
work hard,.
play hard, drink hard and don't trust the goons in charge.. one of the scenarios that would replay itself over and over again concerned a subclass.
Yes, very sad Truth ...
and to think ... there was a time when i talked about Bethel with wonder in my eyes. briefly aspired to go, until i realized my days as a dub were numbered. i saw the handwriting on my loins.
if i had been foolish enough to go, if you've seen any of my other posts you know i wouldn't have lasted too long.
but by the time they booted me out ... i'm sure i would've taken the best-looking ones with me.

One would have been more inclined to read beyond this title if it had read "What I came to Believe about a Righteous God and what I learned about Bethel " but these kinds of expressions don't win 'friends'.
actually dost ...
you're right, that title wouldn't win a bunch of friends. but the SRs of the world do have a tendency to implode, publically, exposing all their lascivious little secrets.
i'd love to see the reality show.

there was a very well respected elder in my cong that i will call mr. r. this elder was a very zealous and pious jw and the po.
mr. r was of cuban descent and had extremely conservative veiws.
mr. r being the upstanding jw and elder had a very attractive wife and two cute kids.
hey dragonfly ...
i can certainly believe your mom had no comment, i'm suprised she told you at all. my mom never tells me tales from Dubland unless they're quaint (stories that make your eyes glaze over).
but i hear the good ol' dirt through the vine (ex-witness friends with active dub fam). the best was an elder, big mucky-muck sort, well-to-do in appearance, new expensive car yearly, yada yada ... even as a kid I hated him and his snooty wife. they even resided in the assembly hall as care-takers and he even held some sort of position in Bethel. He also organized lots of travel excursions for the Witnesses. My mom was always on these cruises and held this man in the highest esteem.
Yeah. Like I said ... big mucky-muck. So anyway, while shopping in the mall with my mom, we run into Sister Mucky-Muck, sitting on bench, eyes swollen, visibly upset. I drifted away and let them talk. When we left the mall, mom only shook her head when I asked what was wrong.
So I made some calls and tapped into the vine.
Well ... it seems that Bro. Mucky-Muck had been mis-handling some ORG funds in a LARGE and most un-Christian way ... and also scamming people (unsuspecting dubs ) with his cruise business and making money hand over watchtower. A big scandel was about to break and he was about to be Df'd. ... ...
If it seems that I enjoyed hearing this news ..... yes, I was down-right giggly.
That was a couple of years ago .... and mom still hasn't gotten around to telling me.
So yes, the mighty have a tendency to go SPLAT in the most amusing way.

i was always fascinated with dinosaurs as a kid.
i remembering asking my mother how come the bible doesn't mention the dinosaurs ... i mean, if he created everything, he must've created the dinosaurs.
why no mention?
When the dinosaurs had fulfilled their purpose, God ended their life. But the Bible is silent on how he did that or when. We can be sure that dinosaurs were created by Jehovah for a purpose, even if we do not fully understand that purpose at this time. They were no mistake, no product of evolution. That they suddenly appear in the fossil record unconnected to any fossil ancestors, and also disappear without leaving connecting fossil links, is evidence against the view that such animals gradually evolved over millions of years of time. Thus, the fossil record does not support the evolution theory. Instead, it harmonizes with the Bible?s view of creative acts of God.
Bluesbrother ... you're right, it gives no answers. But insist that since dinosaur fossel record doesn't show a gradual development ... then it has to be creation.
First off ... I don't agree that it doesn't show developement from one era to another ... and futhermore, the fossil record of human beings clearly shows development and change.
Maybe Adam & Eve had oily dark eyes, tiny foreheads ... and very bad posture.

Thanks Pete ...
why did i think of that? i was under the assumption there were no ancient archeologists ... but i never though maybe some bones had made their way to the surface through other means. naturally those people would be fascinated and make up stories about Dragons and monsters.
a guess the 'fire breathing' part was creative license ... or maybe even biblical somehow.

i loved Dinosaurs so much, as a kid i would have gleefully given in to your dorky desires ..... with or without the dino sheets.
